Water Water Everywhere!

In addition to spending our time on the front porch watching cars, we've been busy with our water table and kiddie pool (although I hate how gross they both get!). We have a pool pass for the community center pool and try to go there 2-3 times a week, but I really need an extra hand there so if Will or a college student can't join me, then our water fun happens on the porch.

I love summer time and all the ways we can enjoy ourselves outside!

Edith: Eleven Months Old

Dear Edie,

You are eleven months old! There are many words I could use to describe you right now: independent, feisty, spunky, snugly, silly, curious, fearless, beautiful. I'm so thankful for you and just in awe of you every day as I watch you interact with your environment. You are growing and developing so fast that it amazes me.

You are on the move. You're starting to crawl on all fours instead of army crawl, and you pull up everywhere. You are cruising along furniture and trying to get into corners and under chairs. You will walk with us while we hold your fingers when you want to. If we try to get you to walk and you're not in the mood then you keep your feet lifted in the air!

You are eating all table food - and you want to do it yourself. No spoon feeding or helping is allowed by you! You have finally figured out the sippy cup, and you love banging it on the table! You still tend to drop food off your high chair when you're not hungry. You LOVE to eat, and if you're fussy I can usually just hand you a slice of bread or handful of cheerios and you're happy again. You like the squirt pouches of babyfood sometimes, but they are more of a toy than food for you. We're still breastfeeding several times a day and I don't have a plan for weaning yet. You don't nurse for a long time but it's still a comfort (for both of us!). You only have three teeth (two on bottom - one on top) but I can tell you have more coming soon.

Oh my goodness... you are so curious. As I'm typing this you are currently taking the covers off of the outlets and you have knocked the cd player in the playroom onto the floor. You love to make messes. If I want to keep you busy I will just put all of your toys in a basket and you will spend the next little bit taking them all back out again. You love baby dolls and your Little People. You also love books and trying to turn the TV on and off. The other day I was upstairs getting ready for church and I heard the volume on the TV go up. I came downstairs and you were standing behind the coffee table, remote in hand, turning the volume all the way up. You are so smart!

Your personality is shaping up to be quite silly. You just figured out how to clap and dance! Just like your daddy, you will do a little dance when you like your food! You love to make your brother laugh, and you guys are still best buds. He gets mad at you sometimes because you can be a straight up pest. You're always messing with his glasses and sometimes you pull his hair. You take it very personally if I tell you no, and you can throw a tantrum if you get in trouble. I am already dreading your teenage years because you are SO DRAMATIC!

Often when you're getting in trouble, you make your brother sad too. He has always been sensitive to kids getting in trouble, and he will cry faster than you when you get caught!

You're sleeping through the night and you take 2-3 naps. You go to bed around 7pm and wake up around 6:30. This all goes out the window if we are not at home - you refuse to nap in a pack and play or in someone else's arms when we're away! You're going to school on Wednesdays from 8-3. This month you went on your first daddy/daughter dates to visit your Uncle Evan at Starbucks and to watch fireworks on July 4th. We've spent a lot of time in the water this summer and you like the pool as long as you are touching one of your parents!

You are wearing 12 month clothes and your hair is finally long enough to clip bows in. You are starting to wear shoes more (size 1 and 2) but you like to take them off in the car. You are 28 inches long and 17 lbs, 11 ounces!

Edie girl- you are so many things to us. Edie Bat, Edie the Adventurer, Edie P, Diva Princess. You're our precious gift and our life would be less colorful and joyful without you. You are God's grace to us!

Love you,

Israel: Thirty- Three Months

You are 2 and 3/4 (33 months) and I must admit that it makes me very sad. I feel like the clock ticking to your third birthday is just a reminder that change is coming for you. At three years old you will "age out" of early intervention and you will say good-bye to the amazing therapists and teachers at the CP center. I hate thinking about it, and it makes me want time to slow down even more. Speaking of therapy and UCP... you are the poster child for the UCP telethon this year! You're on a billboard and posters and a commercial. I'm so proud of you!

You are a lot of fun right now. You have so many tricks and you are saying a lot of words these days: ow (when you hit yourself), hi (staring at your hand), that, baby, mama, pop/papa, walk/walker, Go!Go!, car, truck, vroom, ball. You're pretty clear at communicating what you want with your large bank of facial expressions and by pointing at what you want. You love listening to music and watching "shows" - Baby Einstein and Elmo. I've tried to introduce Daniel Tiger lately and I think you're going to like it eventually.

you love to open and close the tv cabinet, and turn the channels on the tv!

Stuffed animals and real animals really freak you out still. I recently took you to a local museum that was a personal purgatory for you... basically a taxidermy showcase of animals. You love being outside, watching for cars, taking walks, getting praised, and being silly.

Your favorite place is at the pool, and you love being close to the mushroom that has a waterfall. You've gotten pretty brave and you will scoot until you are neck-deep. You are scooting so fast now and you can take many steps with your walker with help. You recently got new braces for your legs that have cars and trucks on them! You recently figured out how to sit up in your crib, which has brought a newfound entertainment for you when you're trying to avoid falling asleep.

Your favorite picture "S'that" - you're pretty obnoxious about it. You want everyone to acknowledge it and if you're in the room, you're pointing at it. But up close... it totally freaks you out. You like to sit on the couch and point but if we hold you up to it you get scared.

You and Edith are best buds. You crack each other up and get in to trouble together. You're still a sympathetic crier and you will get upset when she gets in to trouble. You two love to scoot around the house together and clap for each other. Whenever I pick you up from daycare you always look over to her side of the car and say "Baby!" when you see her.

One of your favorite things to do is FaceTime your grandparents... you always want to see your Pop and Papa, which makes your grandmas a little jealous! You love to make faces and will copy us when we yawn, smack our lips or pucker our lips and raise our eyebrows. You are the funniest, most expressive kid!

We definitely have had our challenges with you. Sometimes it is hard to take you in public because you can be a little unpredictable. You've also had some health issues this summer and we were worried about your weight gain for a while. A little Pediasure, a feeding clinic, and weekly weigh-ins have helped you and you're back up to 27 pounds!

I'm so thankful for you Israel, aka "The Stack" - you keep us on our toes in the best way. You offer the best cuddles and the most rewarding smiles. You give kisses (mainly to other females and your sister) on request and will pat our arms to show affection. You can make yourself belly laugh by shaking your head fast and you and your sister can get into giggling fits that make me have hope for your future. I'm blessed to be your mom.

Love you,

Car Watching on the Porch

I have about 200 pictures of the kids on the front porch this summer. Not joking. We're out on the front porch a lot because it is free entertainment and I can keep the kids corralled there! Thankfully we have a cozy coupe and another car that the kids are content sitting in. 99% of the time they are reaching to press the other kid's horn, but it is easy entertainment! We blow bubbles a lot out there too and shout "CAR!! TRU-UCK!" with our baby Southern accents (ok, mainly Israel). We'll eat our lunches and snacks in the cars and use newfound clapping skills (Edith) to celebrate the passing of cars!

caught mid-yawn in our morning PJs!

If you live in our area, please drive by slowly and often so that our kiddos can get a full appreciation. Feel free to roll down your windows as we clap and cheer you on as you drive past us!
